What turned you on to science/engineering and when?
I have been interested in science for as long as I can remember. My dad is in the medical field and always had answers for my science related questions growing up. My favorite classes in school were math, biology, and chemistry. I knew I would pursue a STEM career since high school.
Why did you try out to be a professional cheerleader?
I enjoyed being a cheerleader growing up and knew I would enjoy it as an adult. It was a great opportunity to dance and build friendships with strong, kind, motivated women.
What is a typical work day like for you?
I work for a company that designs and manufactures DNA sequencing technology. My job is to focus on product and process issues that require corrective action and implement process improvements. My goal is to show that my company builds quality into our products and is committed to continuous improvement. Although I work primarily from DC for a company headquartered in San Diego, occasionally I will travel to various manufacturing sites to assess compliance.
What does it mean for you to be practicing in biotechnology?
I am proud to work in the biotechnology field. It is important for our society to push boundaries and embrace the advancement of science. I hope that my contribution to the field has a positive and lasting effect.
How do you feel about breaking down negative stereotypes about cheerleaders?
It is important to break down negative stereotypes because young women can pursue both paths and be great at both.  Leading by example is the best way to contradict any doubt that women can excel in a STEM career and enjoy cheer/dance in parallel.
Best science/health-related experience?
Several years ago, I went to Japan for work to ensure products like conjugated antibodies were properly handled and shipped out from a distributor. That was one of my favorite business trips by far!
What advice would you give your 12-year- old self?
Surround yourself with people you look up to. Dream big. And know that challenges make you stronger.
