You are a Lead Generation Manager for your company’s cloud and hybrid “infrastructure as a service (IAAS).” What does all that mean, exactly?
Hostway is a web and email hosting provider for small to med size business utilizing the cloud technology on our servers to allow a scalable, cost effective solution for our customers to create a website, promote a product, sell and track online activity. To a 12 year old, I would say what is your favorite online game? The game is hosted by a person who needs a hosting provider to make the game work for many people like you who visit a website.
You’ve been a cheerleader for the San Antonio Spurs. How long did you cheer for them, and why did you try out to be a professional cheerleader?
I was always involved in dance since a very young age. It is my passion and I was invited to try out by a friend. Going in without knowing what to expect, at 18, I fell in love. I made the team first time around. I was thrilled and spent 8 wonderful years on the team.
Best cheerleading experience?
The best experience as a Spurs cheerleader was winning the championship in 2003 and participating in all the festive activities including riding a river parade barge with David Robinson and Tim Duncan. It was so much fun and I was very proud to stand by these two amazing players.
Laura San Antonio Spurs Science Cheerleader at Work What advice would you give your 12-year-old self?
Continue to strive to be the best you. Get involved in fun sports and activities but also don’t lose sight of your studies. Education is very important to build your character and guide you to a good job that you will enjoy.
Why do you want to be a Science Cheerleader?
I love the idea of this program. I have always been a dancer/cheerleader and worked hard to break stereotypes. I’m looking forward to participating in Project MERCCURI to send microbes to space for microbial playoffs on the International Space Station!
